Well let’s start off talking about Mac, you can see by Mac’s OS X that they are doing brilliant, it seems that a lot of people are choosing Mac’s over windows boxes.
But looking more into Mac you will find that it is actually based around Linux and Microsoft where the odd ones out until the release of vista that contain few things that are made like Linux.
So looking if Linux have the power to overtake Microsoft they obviously do, and they are catching up fast from looking at Google trends you can see that Ubuntu Linux are actually overtaking Mac OS X. This has to be good seeing how good Mac is doing.
You will see this on school pc’s, college pc’s or university pc’s.
It’s simple to put it on your own pc just run “regedit”
Now go to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENT VERSION\WINLOGON”
Value1: “legalnoticecaption” = This is the title for your box
Value 2: “legalnoticetext” = This is the text contained inside the box
Well I got my Linux CD a couple of days ago (fedora core 5) I was installing it and I though “wow this looks brilliant” that part actually sold Linux to me.
So after trying out some applications which where on it, the applications where pretty much the same as a lot of Windows applications you have open office which is the same as Microsoft office, Morzilla products so I couldn’t complain until it was time to get my network setup so I went into the network option allowing me to select my wireless device which wasn’t supported on the list. So I went hunting around the forums trying to find the answer and this is where it hit me at how hard Linux is to use you are constantly having to use the equivalent of msdos to compile install, you know what I couldn’t be bothered to I just went on a forum asking for step by step instructions.
Comparing this to setting my wireless device up on Windows its like climbing Mount Everest Windows has plug and play and most major distributors have the drivers for Windows not Linux.
Well I just got my new flash drive, I’m not a heavy user of them but thought it was time to update from my Kingston DataTraveler II 256mb’s, and looking at the modern stuff I was only going for maybe a 1 – 2 gigs with u3.
So after looking around the online shops for a bit I found a SanDisk Cruzer Micro, well after my short wait it came in the post I didn’t really have much time to check it out but plugged it in and I got this little icon showing in the system tray clicked it and wow I have another start bar, with Skype and Avast antivirus software. I downloaded a couple more programs for my u3 flash drive and you can get loads of things to make you feel at home, on my drive I now have WinRAR, Firefox, Thunderbird and Trillian.
There is a small downfall to these u3 drives which are things like places such as your local school or college will have a high probability of not allowing you to run things like this for security reason which is kind of disappointing because it means you have to go back to using internet explorer, not your portable version of Firefox.
Overall if you don’t have U3 on your current flash drive get it, its simply amazing at how good it is. My favorite part of this is you can synchronies your computer to other peoples so you can put your bookmarks on a computer where you plug your flash drive in or you can change the background to your own, so go buy one its great now I have one I don’t think I could go back to my old non u3 drive.
Well here’s a simple tip to make your indicators to be changed when you boot up.
