SEO on the bench (Watching your Logs)

If you take note of the date of my last post and the date of my current post many of you will notice that I have taken a long time off as I started running out of material to write about which could be noticed as my posting was all over the place about everything, which in some way I enjoyed, but many SEO readers would suggest that its a bad idea for the search engines.

So after my time away it allowed me to sit back and watch my statistics. Which in some way was helped by not posting anything or editing any of the website, I did try to keep up to date with wordpress updates to keep secure, which caused some trouble with some plugins. Such as related content links plugin stopping me from gaining more links within my websites own tree, but it didn’t effect the unique visitors as much as the spiders.

It allowed me to stand back and watch the main pages that I used for experimentation with my SEO, and then compare them to the ones that only have things like links within the website etc.

Plusmo is scraping my content!

This week I’m ticked off I have been checking my stats to see how well my website is doing, and I came across plusmo they offer a service to alert your cell phone about RSS updates, okay this service is a good idea but the part that just gets me really wound up is they use your content to promote their website instead of giving your keywords by using your title as a link back they have a stupid little read more link.

But if you don’t want them to scrape your content you have to write a 10 page essay on why it is your site and tonnes of proof, I’m sorry but I shouldn’t have to do this for some dumb ass company stealing my content for their one use.

They could at least be nice and not allow any search engines to visit their site but no, instead of that they use it to their advantage okay maybe I’m being hard on them they do only use a limited amount of words!

First of all you need to work on actually getting people their, this can be done using the art of search engine optimization, if you can get a higher page rank then more people will be finding your keywords.

Getting this page rank can be done many ways the main important one is links to and from your website, once your getting more and more links to your website Google figure that you’ve got to have some importance and therefore make your PR (page rank) higher meaning more and more visitors finding your keywords, keywords are another very important thing there are many ways to make Google give them more importance like in this article on making keywords stand out.

You may of figured out by now that having keywords stand out could be important in getting your website ranked their are many ways in which you can do this:

1. Meta tags most important thing on your websites are use of meta tags these make life much easier, if your running Wordpress you will be able to do this easily by using a plugin called Ultimate Tag Warrior.

2. Bold tags you wouldn’t of thought this but using the bold tag it will make your keywords stand out more with Google so it puts them rank higher, but you don’t want to go over the top, keep it low maybe 10 per page, if you just spam your site with them Google will ignore you and lower your rank.

3. The H1 and H2 tags, these tags are used for headers and can be a very important thing in the world of SEO, by using the header tags Google will figure out that its a title theirfore ranking it higher and making your keywords much stronger, if your running a blog the header tags are a must have!
