Global warming is making this world a mess and if we don’t do something we are screwed, now it has been said before that computers are using up a lot of power which can be coming from coal meaning loads of C02 is being pumped out now people keep saying they want to do something but don’t we have the power to.
No I don’t mean putting a windmill in your backyard well it would be brilliant if you did even better of what I’m thinking of but I’m looking closer too you now what’s staring you in the face?
Your monitor, I am still using the old CRT monitors because i can’t afford a new LCD one but I’m thinking more of the computer the monitor does use up power but your PC is a energy hog. So how can we prevent this well I have talked to a couple of customers I’ve had and they all say that they have and sometimes do leave their computer on all day without using it which yeah is stupid now but what can you do to save some power, well I take it you’ve all heard of hibernate and standby and all this stuff well it isn’t always default.
Here is what I recommend get rid of your screen saver is that is set to show up after 5 mins of idle time change your standby to some on after 5 mins.
Basically what standby does is save everything in your RAM i think of it this way if you use firefox 2 or opera, you close the browser and if you’ve set it up you can open it up with the same session so standby is like closing your computer but having everything saved and at the move of a mouse it will show up again, I’m not sure if thats 100% accurate but its good enough.
Now to set up your hibernate after 1 hour of inactivity my hibernate will turn on which saves a lot of power, its like standby but the extreme it will save your information to the hard disk like standby saves it to your RAM but it will turn off the hard disk and any other things you don’t really need this is a brilliant way to save more power.
But the ultimate way to save power is turn off everything you don’t use, your going out for 30 mins turn your computers off the TV’s everything, does it matter if you take 5 mins to start things up again and get back to where you where, it really isn’t that bad is it when you get into the habit of it and you wont feel very guilty any more you could be thanked for saving your power.
Please can you tell me if you liked my comments on this subject or if you have taken action after reading my article global warming is really knocking on our doors and we need to do something, if possible please blog about this do something do everything you can we have the answers we’re just not taking action.
We can do so much for example don’t take bathes have showers brushing your teeth don’t leave the tap on washing the dishes don’t use the dish washer, now I have taken action and done these things and it is a small chip in getting the world back on track but at least I’m doing something, people around me aren’t taking this seriously!

Before I comment on this particular artilce I’d just like to say that I admire your efforts and this site has a good design but the main ingredient of a blog is its content and to be honest I found reading through your poor grammer very tiresome.
Improving on it would be a asset to your site and yourself.
Anyway, global warming, we have only been breaking the carbon cylce with our added emisions for nearly 200 years (not much considering the age of the earth) and yet it is having a significant impact, so I agree something must be done. You mentioned turning off computers etc if your leaving them for more than 30 mins but this is not nessecerly a good thing as it takes as much energy to start up a computer as it does to run it for 45 minutes.
I also have a question, I have hibernate and standby disabled because i regualry run long p2p downloads, can you suggest anyway to run these and still lower energy use?

Thanks for your comment “hellmonkey” I would understand what your talking about if you was starting up a super computer but to start a regular computer up it doesn’t use up as much as your talking about but really you have to consider all the programs your starting up etc, if you run Linux or a small OS it doesn’t use up as much as regular Windows.
P2P downloading I wouldn’t recommend at all but only thing I can think off is close as much things as possible you can setup up your computer to be in “classic” theme by going control panel >> System >> Advanced >> performance settings >> then select adjust for best performance, now this will help as your not using as much resources to display all the images that the regular XP theme.

The main energy savings you can make are transport and home heating.
The PC isnt the biggest power consumer, however switching your screen off when doing P2P downloads saves a fair bit of power.

There are lots of things you can do. Cut back on fuel consumption is probably one of the biggest ones. Cars are terrible for the environment.
If you’re really smart and motivated you could come up with something and win 25 million dollars from Richard Branson. You can find out more about it here:

This guy seems to accept no limits.

Branson is Fairly Cool.
One of the Few multi Millionaires who is actually cool.
I have a lot of respect for him.
If there were more people like him the world would be a much better place.

Yes cars cant live with them cant live without them, untill we find a alternative or richard brandson’s competition filtering co2 and making something else out of it works were screwed.
As for richard brandson I am one who respects him as well he is the smartest business man alive he really does know what hes doing and now their is no stopping him but this is another problem.
But yeah his ideas will make a big dent in the profits but in 10-20 years he will be sitting on a good amount becuase everyone will but what they need to save the world for example his new fuel or this competition to filter co2.
